Suppose a vessel 9½ inches deep, 9 inches diameter, and contents 2.6163, that is, 2 gallons and 61 hundredth parts of a gallon; now to ascertain this decimal of a gallon, refer to the above Table for the decimal that is nearest, which is .625, opposite to which is |ths of a gallon, or 20 gills, or 5 pints, or 2½ quarts, consequently the vessel contains 2 gallons and 5 pints.

To find what part of an inch the decimal .708 is. Refer to the above Table for the decimal that is nearest, which is •71875, opposite to which is 23-32, or nearly ¾ths of an inch.
