To dry-clean a striped Valencia waistcoat and lining, cut 2oz. of Sunlight soap into shavings, and pour over it 1 1/2 pints of boiling water in which is placed a small piece of alum. Beat this into a lather and leave to cool. When cool it will be the substance of a jelly. Apply this to the waistcoat with a close sponge; do a few square inches at a time. With another sponge, wash off the substance with a very little tepid water. Then squeeze the water from the sponge and dry the material. Repeat this process till the vest is finished. Then hang it up until thoroughly dry, and dry-press.
