To remove black grain marks from ivory, scrape the latter, being careful to keep to the original contour. A plan adopted with valuable pieces is to engrave a design on the surface, and to till with sealing-wax dissolved in spirit. Leave this to set, then polish off, thus hiding the objectionable marks.
