Brush over the letters a strong solution of caustic soda, or a mixture of 2 parts of pearlash, 1 part of quicklime, and sufficient water to make it into a cream. Allow the liquids to remain on the glass for a few minutes, and then wash off with water. A second application may be made if the first does not remove the whole of the paint.
