The quantity of pipe required depends on the pressure of steam available. With a low pressure, say 101b. per square inch, to obtain 1500 Fah. 150 sq. ft. sur-iace of steam pipe per 1,000 cub. ft. of space will be wanted. The room has just over 10,000 cub. ft. of space in it, and therefore requires 1,500 sq. ft. of heating surface, or, say, 2,850 ft. of 2-in. pipe. This is supposing the ventilation to be free. With high-pressure steam, considerably less pipe will suffice. A single 2-in. pipe all round would scarcely suffice to heat the room 55° without the full degree of ventilation that is needed in drying-rooms. Wrought-iron pipe should be used.
