P. sativa: annual or biennial; stem erect, 2-3 feet high; leaves pinnate, coarse, downy, with 5-9 sharply-toothed, and more or less lobed segments; upper leaves small and less divided; umbels of 8-12 rays, usually without involucres; fruits flat and oval. - Pastures and thickets, on calcareous soils. Fl. July.
