Three cups sifted flour, 1 cup New Orleans molasses, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 3 eggs beaten light, 1 cup sweet milk, 2 level teaspoons soda dissolved in milk, 1 heaping teaspoon cinnamon, 1 scant teaspoon cloves, 1/2 a nutmeg, a little salt, 1 cup seeded raisins, 1/2 cup shedded citron, 1/2 cup candied orange peel, cut fine. Mix the dry ingredients; add molasses and eggs, soda in the milk, melted butter, lastly the fruit well dredged in flour. Fill buttered baking powder tins not quite two-thirds full and steam 1 1/2 hours.
Take soft part of loaf of bread; pick into pieces. Add 2 beaten eggs, 1 cup seeded raisins, 1 cup molasses, butter size of an egg, spices. Steam 3 hours.
