We suspect, from having seen such things before, that your disappointment in not finding the bulbs of the Achimenes where they should have been, for the spring repotting, was owing to the plants having been exposed to a slight frost in the autumn before they were housed. The bulbs are found very near the surface and a single cold autumn night is sufficient to destroy them. Tour manner of wintering them is the correct one, and the disappearance of the bulbs must be either owing to frost or mice. Ed.
