Epiphysis (epif'isis). Articular extremity of a bone attached by cartilage.

Epithelium. Covering or lining of skin and mucous membrane.

Eth'moid. Sieve-like, a bone of the cranium.

Fac'et. A small plane surface on bone for articulation.

Fas'cia. Fibrous membrane covering muscles.

Fibrillae. Little fibres.

Follicle. A small gland.

Fora'men, pl. Foramina. A hole in bone.

Fora'men mag'num. A large hole at the base of the skull.

Fora'men ovale. An oval hole in the ischium.

Fos'sa. A depression.

Fun'dus. The base of an organ.

Funic'ulus. A little cord or bundle of fibre.

Ganglion. A knot-like arrangement (a nerve centre) in the course of a nerve.

Gladi'olus. The middle portion of the sternum.

Glen'oid. Shallow cavity of the scapula.

Glos'so-pharyn'geal. Pertaining to the tongue and pharynx.

Gly'cogen. Animal starch formed in the liver.

Haemoglo'bin. Colouring matter of red corpuscles. Haver'sian canals. Canals in bone discovered by Dr. Havers.

Hepat'ic. Pertaining to the liver.

Hi'lum. A small fissure or depression.

Hy'aline. Like glass, applied to cartilage.

Hy'oid. Bone of the neck, shaped like the Greek letter upsilon.

Hypogas'trium. Lower anterior region of abdomen.

Hypoglos'sal. Under the tongue.

Hypothenar eminence. Ball of the little finger.

Ileum. Third part of small intestine (to roll up).

I'liac. Pertaining to the ilium.

I'lium. The flank.

In'guinal (in'gwin'al). Relating to the groin.

Intersti'tial. Having interstices or spaces.

In'unction. Anointing.

Is'chium. Lowest part of the os innominatum.

Jeju'num. Second part of small intestine (empty).

Ju'gular. Belonging to the neck

Lac'teals. Vessels in small intestines carrying milk-like fluid.

Lar'ynx. Organ of voice.

Leu'cocytes. White corpuscles.

Lin'ea alba. White line formed in middle of abdomen by crossing of tendon fibres.

Lin'ea aspera. Rough line on back of femur.

Lymphatics. Vessels carrying lymph.
