Jalap consists of the dried tuberous root of Exogonium Purga (Fam. Convolvu-lacece), a perennial herb, native to Eastern Mexico. It yields not less than 7% of resinous principles.

Jalap is a powerful hydrogogue purgative. Dose, 1 Gm.
