Egypt. chikouryeh, chichory, chicory, succory - i. e., the original Ara-bic name of the characteristic plant. Herbs. Distinguished by alter-nate or basal leaves; milky acrid or bitter juice; flowers all alike, per-fect, calyx-tube adnate to ovary, corolla gamopetalous, limb 5-toothed, anthers syngenesious; ovary 1-celled; fruit achene; universal; diuretic, tonic, aperient, deobstruent. Genera: 1. Taraxacum. 2. Lactuca.
