C4I4NH=569.01. Synonym. - Tetraiodopyrrol.
From the interaction of Iodine and Pyrrol in Alcoholic solution. It contains 90 per cent. of Iodine.
A pale-yellow, bulky powder, odorless and tasteless. It becomes dark in color on exposure to light. Solubility. - Insoluble in water; soluble in Alcohol, Ether and fixed oils.
Dose, 1/2 to 3 gr.; .03 to .20 gm.
Iodol was introduced as an antiseptic iodine compound, and is used for the same purpose as iodoform, for which it is a frequent substitute. It has been administered internally as a substitute for potassium iodide.
