Latin, Liquor Hydrogenii Dioxidi (Gen., Liquoris Hydrogenii Dioxidi)
Eng., Solution of Hydrogen Dioxide. Synonyms, Peroxide of Hydrogen, Aqua Hydrogenii Dioxidi.
The ninth revision of the Pharmacopeia changed the name of this preparation from an "aqua" to "liquor."
An aqueous solution containing not less than 3 per cent. by weight of absolute Hydrogen Dioxide (H2O) corresponding to 10 volumes of available oxygen.
A colorless liquid.
Practically odorless. A .slightly acidulous taste and producing a peculiar sensation and soapy froth in the mouth.
1 fluidrachm (4 mils).
Antiseptic and deodorant.
It is seldom used internally. Locally, it is extensively employed in the treatment of sores, ulcers, abscesses, tonsillitis, diphtheria, scarlatina, stomatitis, etc.
This preparation is prescribed either alone or diluted with one or more volumes of distilled water. It is seldom prescribed with other medicinal agents.
