In gout, lithaeinia, hepatic and renal disease generally and arterio-sclerosis and tendencies to fibroid degeneration, as after middle life, purins should be avoided so far as practicable. In tuberculosis, there is a general indication to increase the purins as much as possible, even by administering nuclein as such. Whether the use of urea - which in large quantities certainly forms considerable uric acid - is advisable, is doubtful.
