A sweet substance obtained from the trunk of the flowerish ash tree, in the countries bordering on the Mediterranean. Its only important use is to open the bowels of children and delicate people, including women during pregnancy. It may be eaten like sugar. The dose is not very definite ; a little experience will show how much is required for the desired effect.
