Q. I have arranged several steam or carving tables, to heat the water by running a pipe through a range, as shown in the inclosed sketch, but in every case the carving-table has been on the floor above, but in this house the table and range are on the same floor, and I cannot get more than two feet rise from range to table-doors, and windows prevent my running the pipe along the wall. Will it work as marked, or can you suggest a plan by which I could make it work?

A. There are several ways in which your object can be accomplished. The one we illustrate here is as simple as any. A is the water-back and B the expansion-tank, which may be either open or closed.

If an open tank is used, supply by ball-cock, and place overflow near the top of the tank. If a closed tank is used, have sufficient space in same to allow for the expansion of the water (not less than about 1/25 of the quantity of water in the apparatus). C is the carving-table, D the flow-pipe, E the coil in the table, shown also in plan, and F the return-pipe.
