[Ger.] An acid volatile oil obtained in the manufacture of potato brandy and whiskey. Its chief constituent is amyl alcohol. It has a powerful and suffocating odor, and is supposed to be a product of the fermentation of sugar. It is an undesirable ingredient in alcohol.
