A common American plant, about 4 or 5 inches high, with small whitish flowers and red berries. It is also known as partridge-berry, checker-berry, mountain tea, and by other names. The plant has a pleasant aromatic taste and odor, and yields the oil of winter-green, used as a stimulant, for flavoring syrups, and in perfumery.
