The printing is done in the ordinary way, gold size or varnish being used instead of ink, and then, whilst the impression is still tacky, it is brushed over with a soft brush dipped either in silver or gold powder. The sticky letters retain enough powder to cover them, the surplus being brushed off. Embossed letters are done in an embossing press furnished with dies.
