To Bandage the Lower Limb.—A bandage is applied to the great toe in the same way as to the thumb.

To Bandage the Foot.—Bandage 2.5 inches wide. Extend the leg and place the foot at a right angle to it. Lay the free end of the bandage over the inner ankle, take the roll over the instep to the root of the little toe, then across the sole of the foot to the ball of the big toe, then over the instep and the outer ankle, round the back of the heel, across the inner ankle, and over the front of the instep to the root of the little toe ; then across the sole of the foot to the ball of the great toe ; then across the top of the foot at the base of the toes, round the sole of the foot and back to the ball of the great toe ; then two reverses over the top of the lower part of the foot and two figures of eight round the ankle ; then two or three circular turns and secure with a safety-pin, or it may be continued up the leg by reverse spirals to the knee ; then round the joint by figures of eight, either covering in the joint or leaving it free, and then on up the thigh by reverse spirals, doing the whole lower limb the same as the upper.

Divergent Spica for the Heel.—Lay the free end of the bandage as before, then over the instep and under the sole, over the instep again, across the outer ankle and over the heel, placing the middle of the bandage on the most projecting part ; then inwards and across the foot, then under the sole of the foot, overlapping the preceding turn on the lower border ; then over the foot and round the heel, this time overlapping the upper border of the first turn, then over the lower border; again over the upper, and so on, each turn being a little further from the preceding ; finish with a couple of turns round the lower part of the leg.

Divergent Spica for the Knee.—Bandage 2.5 to 3 inches wide. Semiflex the knee. Lay the free end of the bandage on the inner side of the knee, and take the roll over the front of the patella to the outer side of the knee, then under the knee to the inner side ; now across the front of the knee, overlapping the lower border of the preceding turn, then round under the knee to the inner side, this time overlapping the upper border of the first turn ; continue above and below alternately.
