The darning ball (Fig. 157) and the darning hemisphere (Fig. 159) should be finely finished, especially on the large hemispherical ends. The sizes may vary. Those given in

the drawings (Figs. 158 and 160) are of the average size. The wood used should be of a close, hard grain. Maple, cherry, apple, etc., are suitable.
